Question:

I take both of these drugs and they are very expensive. Someone told me the pattens on both drugs will expire in the next year or so but did not know exactly when.

Answer:

Plavix is gonna expire on 2011, while Lipitor will go generic only on 2012. Actually, I am also taking Lipitor. It works wonders on my bad cholesterol and tri's but now my good cholesterol is whacked, lowered. Ratio is also a lot better but the lowering of my good cholesterol has my doctor thinking I need yet another drug to bring good cholesterol back up. I used to order generic version of Lipitor (Atorvastatin) overseas, with the http://www.pharmacynextdoor.com , they have very reasonable prices on Generic Lipitor, I used to get 3 months supply for only $125 dollars. It is interesting that they already have the generic version of it. Have not noticed any difference comparing to PFIZER Lipitor. I do not care if it is illegal, but it is much much cheaper, and it was a life-saver for me. They also sell generic plavix, it is called Clopidogrel.

Question:

My grandmother is taking Lipitor for her cholesterol. She is worried that she can't drink coffee while on medication??? Help please! thank you!!!

Answer:

First thing is to AVOID THE LIPITOR! That drug is dangerous and should not be on the market.

Statin drugs like Lipitor, lower cholesterol by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, a key enzyme in cholesterol synthesis. In many cases these drugs activate the Atrogin-1 gene that plays a key role in muscle atrophy. Three separate tests showed that even at low concentrations, statin drugs led to Atrogin-1 induced muscle damage. As the concentrations increased, the damage increased as well. This is why many people have muscle cramps and aches when taking these drugs. Since the heart is a muscle, does it make sense to activate the Atrogin-1 gene that causes muscle atrophy? Additionally, the production of Coenzyme Q-10 is greatly reduced by 50% in just 30 days from taking statin drugs. This co-enzyme is vital to good heart function, making collagen for structural integrity, and most importantly every cell in the body needs this coenzyme to produce ATP for cellular energy. There are some disease consequences from having low Coenzyme Q-10 such as rhabdomyolysis, hepatitis, myopathy, neuropathy, cardiomyopathy, vertigo, congestive heart failure. Rhabdomyolysis is a potentially fatal disease where muscle tissue deteriorates as a result of a deficiency of Coenzyme Q-10. This is in addition to the activation of the Atrogin-1 gene. In addition to these problems from taking statin drugs things like cognitive loss, neuropathy, anemia, acidosis, frequent fevers, cataracts, and sexual dysfunction have also been reported as side effects.

It is BAD SCIENCE that says cholesterol numbers above 200 are bad. A woman should have a total cholesterol between 240 and 300 for longevity and the ability to make good STEROID HORMONES.

The body makes 85% of the cholesterol found in the body and only 15% comes from diet. If you eat less cholesterol, your body just makes more. Controlling the cholesterol levels in people is just a way for drug companies to sell billions of dollars of that and other drugs, nothing more. Cholesterol does NOT cause heart disease. Even the American Heart Associations says that.

Your grandmother will need to watch her blood pressure now very carefully because reducing the cholesterol in her body will affect her ability to repair arteries and STROKE will now become a higher risk for her. She needs to become educated on this issue and not listen to the INDOCTRINATION that is happening everywhere on this subject.

EDIT: Tweety, the biggest drug interaction from taking Lipitor is Lipitor itself. It is reacting with the body in ways that no one should have to endure, ever. It is a dangerous drug, addressing a make believe problem, and is damaging so many people, yet our illustrious medical system seems to still believe the ego maniac, Ancel Keys, was credible and his lipid hypothesis that created this lunacy was credible. When someone asks the question, they need to learn the truth, not some sugar coated medical indoctrination dreamed up by a pharmaceutical company with a profit agenda regardless of the health problems that drug is creating, like liver cancer!

I liked your suggestion to see a pharmacist about his opinion on Lipitor. Here is a guy on Yahoo Answers that is a pharmacist that will give you his opinion: "aceofspd"

good luck

Question:

Answer:

Are these your medications? These drugs reduce the risk of you having another heart attack. It's not wise to be replacing them with whatever untested, unproven "natural remedy" an alt medder will recommend to you.

There aren't any "natural" replacements for plavix, metoprolol, or lipitor.

edit: hasse_john has no idea what he's talking about. The only cholesterol drug there is Lipitor. Plavix prevents clots that can cause artery blockage, metoprolol slows down the heart, decreasing stress on it and also lowers blood pressure. All these medications reduce the risk of a repeat heart attack.

@Chicago Mike: The asker was asking what can REPLACE the medications he enumerated. There is no way in hell those supplements can be equal to the meds he is currently taking. The best he can do if he can actually afford those supplements is to take them along with his meds. It is irresponsible to advice someone to ditch their medication in favor of supplements.

Question:

What is the difference between the two? With all the bad stuff about lipitor what is a better alternative?

Answer:

What "bad stuff"? Lipitor has a long track record of safety. As do all of the statins.

Lipitor and other statins lower total cholesterol and LDL (the 'bad' cholesterol). Unfortunately, options for raising HDL (the 'good' stuff) are limited to Niaspan.

I've been on high dose Niaspan (2 gm/night) and Zocor (similar to Lipitor). NO side effects. My liver is as good as it was 10 years ago. No muscle aches. Just good lipid results.

Been dealing with BP issues for the past 2 yrs. I am on 2 BP?

Question:

meds. Underwent a heart cath back in Oct, Had 30% blockage in 2 places in main artery. Not enough for stenting so I have been trying to eat right and and need to get on a reg exercise regime but am not having much luck. I have back, shoulder and leg pain prob. I have managed to get my cholesterol within normal range but now am having Trig problems ranging about 320. Dr added a med to my Lipitor...but it makes my mind very foggy so I quit. I have a treadmill and for the past 3 days I have been walking 10 min at a time in the morning and the evening. I intend to build that time up as I can. Someone told me I was wasting my time at 10 minutes.....does anyone have knowledge of how long...what benefit etcetc....what I need to know about walking? I really am trying to get myself under control. Just the eating healthy alone has helped me drop almost 30 lbs since November....but I'm just exhausted all the time. No energy at all. Could sleep all day if I wanted to. I'm thinking this may be meds. I take 50mg Lopressor & 300mg Tekturna for my BP...10mg Lipitor once a day,, 7.5 Lorcet twice a day, one aspirin, 2 omega 3, 2 CoQ10,..any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank You so much.

Answer:

The right way to lose weight is eating healthy and exercise. You are probably tired because your body does not get all the necessary ingredients: vitamins, minerals, proteins, fibers. . Q10 is excellent. The omega 3 you take is great - I would suggest you should take min. 1000mg a day. And increase your cardio exercise to a min. 30 min. 5 days a week. I lost 40 pounds in 3 months having a personalized program. My husband is 65 years old. He had an heart attack 8 years ago and have 4 bypasses. He also had a personalized program and he looks and feels great. He is doing every day min. 30 minutes of cardio and many weight lifts. He also helps others like me to lose weight and maintain healthy heart.

Question:

Answer:

Atorvastatin (Lipitor) is one of the best anti-cholesterol drugs on the market, with a very powerful effect on LDL levels. Rosivustatin (Crestor) has a very similar spectrum of action, but has not been on the market for the same length of time as atorvastatin, therefore there is a greater possibility that we still haven't come across all the possible side-effects of this drug. I have had patients taking both drugs quite successfully, but personally I would be happier with atorvastatin if I had to take an anti-cholesterol drug personally.

Oh and David - all drugs have side-effects, someone somewhere will always report a particularly nasty effect to any drug, telling people not to take a drug that will significantly reduce the possibility of cardiac effects and emboli is gravely irresponsible of you, especially since it is based on misleading information.

Answer:

how about this crazy economy and how it affects so many with so little money. believe me, so many will share a few words about how they are affected. homes are not selling, many do not qualiify to refinance because the have no job to pay the banks back, and if we keep losing jobs it will be so hard for many to survive.

the price of food is up to afford it, so we have to shop smarter, and if ur one to travel by train in nyc, the cost for thatwill be raised on top of theh unemployment rate.

Answer:

You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs, foods and cosmetics to the FDA. Visit the FDA MedWatch website or call 1-800-FDA-1088.

People spend $20 billion per year on vitamins and supplements. According to Everyday Health, here's an article that will tell you why . . . those PRODUCTS by any other name do NOT WORK. It is false advertisements.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t have to approve supplements — no agency in the United States does. So it’s up to consumers to bring health concerns to light. “It’s important to understand the difference between over-the-counter medications and dietary supplements,” say Pieter Cohen, MD, an internist at Cambridge Health Alliance and instructor at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Mass. The FDA gets involved only after the fact, if the supplement later appears to be causing harm. By that time, the supplement may already have harmed many consumers who used it. “The burden of proof is on the FDA to determine [a supplement] is dangerous and remove it from the market,” Cohen says. Consumer complaints are the primary trigger for investigations. One recent investigation of the dietary weight-loss supplement ephedra resulted in it being banned for sale in the United States.

I was a little weary of ordering generic viagra from a web site due to the horror stories that you hear about people paying and their products never arriving. However, I have had nothing but a great experience from this company, including six-seven day delivery. Both me and my boyfriend were in heaven when we tried their product! Works even better than regular viagra my bf was getting locally.

I am recommending this website to all my friends!

Is it illegal that they sell generic viagra and cialis already? Before Pfizer patent had expired?

So, I went online and did some research and you know what - Generic Lipitor is already on the market in such countries like India, China, UK. I have been ordering generic Lipitor for almost 2 years now wuth reputable UK Pharmacy Next Door drugstore. Here, check the prices they have on Generic Lipitor, http://www.pharmacynextdoor.com/buy_lipi… amazing, is not it?!

Question:

I've changed my diet to include more veggies, fruits and fish (salmon, flounder and tuna). I walk 7 days a week for about 30 to 40 minutes. I've started aerobics recently and plan to include running one to two days a week. I have lots of fiber in my diet (beans, nuts, whole wheat breads, oatmeal, prunes etc.). I have never been overweight, never drink or smoke. However, hypertension runs in my family so I am taking 10mg of lisinopril. Kidney disease also runs in the family. So my questions is if I decide to take Lipitor and lisinopril together won't that harm my kidneys? My last total reading was 250 although that number fluctuates when I get blood tests done by my cardiologist. My HDL is always excellent. Just trying to stay alive.

Answer:

With all the lifestyle changes you are making, I think your cholesterol will go down. Remember that you have family history for the diseases mentioned, that's why I think your normal cholesterol levels are a bit higher than for other people.

Since your HDL is excellent, the only thing I wish to you is: Hoping you'll never give up!

Good luck!

Answer:

I'd consult your doctor to be sure, but since our bodies naturally make melotonin, I'm sure taking a LITTLE more wouldn't hurt.

It is known that statins deplete the enzyme. However, no clinical study has shown any benefit to it.

Sounds strange, but the patients that took the supplement did no better than those who did.

Question:

be the cause of rectal bleeding, I am freaking out, my Father had a heart attack on May 2009 of last year. He is taking Plavix 75mg - Metoprolol 50mg - Lipitor 80mg - Benzepril Hcl 40mg (mylan)#30

and he never had any hemorrhoid problem before.

he keeps assuring me if bleeding gets worst then we go to hospital

need help and advise

thanks

Answer:

Plavix is a blood thinner that increases the risk of bleeding and inhibits the bodies ability to clot blood. Plavix is not the direct cause of the rectal bleeding, but it certainly is involved. The rectal bleeding could be from hemorrhoids or other causes of lower GI bleeding. Never stop a medication like Plavix without discussing it with the doctor. Plavix can be discontinued temporarily until the bleeding is controlled depending on his indication for Plavix. If your father had a heart attack but no stent placement in the arteries around the heart, then stopping Plavix temporarily is not a problem. If he has a stent in his artery, then it depends on the type of stent and how long it has been there. Stopping Plavix too early could lead to the formation of clot in the stent and life threatening heart attack. I mention this as a reason of why you should not stop a medication like Plavix without discussing it with his doctors. Go to the hospital, determine the cause of bleeding and try to control it. There are risks and benefits with every medication. There are many benefits from Plavix, but there is a risk of problems such as bleeding.

Question:

So our politics professor was talking about this in class, but I kind of got confused and after class he didn't help in his explanation, so I thought I'd ask the geniuses here. :-)

So Person A, who is a physician him or herself, normally orders prescription medicine (such as Lipitor) from the US, but does something different for a change. He asks another physician he or she knows, who lives in Canada, and asks him or her to write the prescription for him to a Canadian pharmacy. Person A then has a relative or friend who lives in Canada bring the prescription from the pharmacy to him in the United States. Was any crime committed? Is any person at risk of facing legal trouble? If so, please help me understand how. Thanks

Answer:

I wouldn't think so. as long as the medicine is legal in America,

Question:

It seems like they have been around at least since the 90's. Thank you for your answers.

Answer:

Since the late 80's.

Conventional high cholesterol treatment for lowering cholesterol levels is prescription statin drugs. Unfortunately, statins don't distinguish between "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and "good" cholesterol (HDL). They also reduce Co-enzyme Q10 and L-carnitine levels, important in energy production and fat metabolism. Side-effects like myalgia and stomach, lung and liver tumors have been associated with use of these drugs.

A combination of natural cholesterol remedies, regular exercise and dietary changes can make a significant impact in lowering cholesterol levels and reduce or even eliminate the need for prescription drugs.

Question:

I literally changed my views 180 degrees, almost, in the last few years. I never really thought about food and just took things like Lipitor to "stay healthy". Then I met this diet / fitness trainer who helped me get in great shape and i've never felt better before and I have a good diet and don't take any medication anymore at all.

but so many doctors never advise things like that. They just put you on antibiotics for a simple cold, for example and then don't even advise to take probiotics after that. So they kill your intestinal bacteria including the good ones and don't care about rebuilding them.

it's so ignorant.

Your body is made out of what you eat you know.

Answer:

Hey Austrian, In the US they prescribe antibiotics to 20 million people a year for viral infections When they know it does nothing for viral infections. NU TING!!! How are we suppose to trust someone like this. We have no voice! and it ticks me off to no end when they try to cover up things here and debunk everything we say like they're gods and then congratulate one another, like a bunch of blood sucking bats.

Question:

are there any long term links to lipitor and cancer?

Answer:

Headaches, muscle pain, and joint pain are common side effects that have been reported with Lipitor. Side effects that are less common include lack of appetite, back pain, and constipation. Although most people have no problems when taking the drug, serious side effects of Lipitor, such as unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, should be reported to your healthcare provider right away.

However

There was a webpage (http://www.captainclark.com/Pages/lipitorhorror.html) that "Claimed!!!" that Lipitor caused Lung Cancer. Im not Sure.

BUT, As Far as I know. NO. Lipitor Does NOT link to Cancer.

Question:

I've read all the stuff about Q10 and have been taking it for years because I suffered from high Cholesterol and was put on Lipitor to lower it, that worked and my Cholesterol is fine now, I've read and was told by health stores that one needs Q10 to replace what the body doesn't replenish anymore as you get older and also because of Cholesterol lowering drugs, its meant to be good for your heart and brain etc, anyway this is what i was told. Just recently I had a slight Heart flutter and got checked out by one of the best Cardiologists in the world, he asked me what meds I take so I told him and then mentioned I take Q10, he asked "why"? so I told him, he then said "don't bother" it does nothing" "it;s all marketing" and only makes me poor and the health shops rich, I feel really ripped off now, Ive been spending $50 a month for stuff that doesn't do anything? as I have said he is a Professor and leading World renown Cardiologist that has pioneered heart saving procedures and knows what he is talking about, so who do I believe? Him or a health shop / pill manufacturers?

Answer:

$50 a month? You surely are buying some expensive CoQ10!

According to the Mayo Clinic:

"Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is produced by the human body and is necessary for the basic functioning of cells. CoQ10 levels are reported to decrease with age and to be low in patients with some chronic diseases such as heart conditions, muscular dystrophies, Parkinson's disease, cancer, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS. Some prescription drugs may also lower CoQ10 levels."

Now, though the mainstream line is that it remains unproven whether supplementing with CoQ10 helps people with low CoQ10 levels, given the vital role it plays I would think that common sense alone would tell you it would not be a bad idea to take supplemental CoQ10 when your levels were low due to age or drugs.

I take it regularly, turn 58 in 6 days and have not been to a doctor in decades. Chances are that I take some things I don't need, but something is working and I surely have not been harmed.

BTW, chances are that Hawthorne Berry Syrup will help you with the irregular heart flutter. I take that too. : )

All the best!

Answer:

Well, I can't really compete with the credentials of a world renown cardiologist, but I can tell you 2 things: 1) I've seen and heard many different world renown cardiologists disagreeing over many things. The fact that one says that means nothing to me. 2) I personally use Co Q Enzyme 10, and I personally feel the difference. I like it. I feel better. I use a cream on my face, and I can visibly see the difference...and when I take a tablet, I can physically feel the difference. I go by my own experience with it. That's what I trust. And I'm a skeptical person...who rarely relies on over the counter remedies for anything. So, there are my 2 cents worth. Take them and use them for what you can find valuable for yourself...and good luck with your decision on it.

Any cure/diagnosis?

Question:

Hi, I am 52 years old and for the past few months I have been suffering from excessive itching. I'm on plavix, lipitor, synthroid, an aspirin due to heart stent and hypothyroidism. My rash appears like welts and then changes to more extreme itch. It started from the lower back and has spread all over the back, chest, and legs. Some dermatologists say it is hives while others say its eczema.

Answer:

Sounds like my own skin issues.

Whenever one's immune system becomes weakened from allergic reactions to toxins or antiobiotics or cosmetics or from low micro-nutrition absorption in the gut, fungal bacterial infections are oftentimes the result.

Monistat anti-fungal anti-bacterial may help the healing process, or the problem may need stronger antibiotics if one's body may be 'allowing' the beginnings of deadly bacterial meningitis to grow.

I truly hope you will quickly find a 'good' physician that will give you solid short and long term advice, and after you do it - the advice will keep you and yours healthy and strong for a lifetime.

My best to you,

AI

PS - I have come to the conclusion that occasional fastings and better non-toxic micro-nutritional absorption in the gut heals our bodies better than anything else can.

IF YI, this is a report I recently posted for another with a malady that has eventually affected their skin.

I hope I might have helped a little. <3

Side effects?

Question:

I recently began taking Lipitor for high cholesterol and my blood pressure has gotten much higher. It has always been 120/80...always. The last 3 times I was at the doctor's (during the last 6 weeks) it was in the nieghborhood of 140/100 and the doc recommended that I buy a home blood pressure kit. I've been taking it daily and it's still high - 140-150/ 90-110. The doctor doesn't want to see me until after the new year. Could it be the Lipitor? Or could it be stress?

Answer:

my father takes lipitor and i help manage his meds. there is nothing noted that says it causes high blood pressure on the paper that comes with his medicine. it says it can cause muscle pain and weakness, and nausea/diarrhea.

stress can cause your blood pressure to go up, i do know that. we all have stress, but it is important to be able to handle it. some people use yoga, prayer, meditation, or things like that. i use physical labor - cleaning out closets, running, weeding the garden, etc. i also heard that holding a purring cat lowers your blood pressuer.

call the doctor's office and ask to speak to a nurse, then tell her/him what your blood pressure has been. they may want to see you sooner.

Question:

Answer:

better health. Lipitor can cause muscle pain and wasting.Lipitor depletes and blocks coenzyme Q10 from being made in the liver. If the body is depleted of coQ10 you are high risk for a heart attack which coQ10 helps to prevent. There are many safe non drug ways to lower cholesterol. look them up at swansonvitamins.com (follow the links to their health reference library)

Question:

Answer:

* Diarrhea

    * Upset stomach

    * Muscle and joint pain

    * Alterations in some laboratory tests

    * Tiredness

    * Tendon problems

Serious side effects include:

    * Muscle problems. LIPITOR can cause serious muscle problems that can lead to kidney problems, including kidney failure. You have a higher chance for muscle problems if you are taking certain other medicines with LIPITOR

    * Liver problems. LIPITOR can cause liver problems. Your doctor may do blood tests to check your liver before you start taking LIPITOR, and while you take it

Call your doctor right away if:

    * You have muscle problems like weakness, tenderness, or pain that happen without a good reason, especially if you also have a fever or feel more tired than usual

    * You have allergic reactions including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and/or throat that may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing, which may require treatment right away

    * You experience nausea and vomiting

    * You pass brown or dark-colored urine

    * You feel more tired than usual

    * Your skin and whites of your eyes get yellow

    * You have stomach pain

    * You have an allergic skin reaction

Question:

I would like to know what drug plan is good. Most of them say that I have to pay a penalty because I didn't join them years ago. I didn't need them years ago. Please let me know what plan is good for me. I live in Piscataway, New Jersey and with the economy the way it is, why should I pay a penalty?

Answer:

ok, so you have hypertension and dyslipidemia.

The first thing you should do - if you already haven't - is talk to your doctor about lifestyle modifications. This will have a great benefit on your blood pressure and cholesterol and will lower the dosage (amount) of meds you take. They may even eventually cause you to come of your meds depending on the need and severity of your condition. The key is healthy eating and exercise (aerobic). There are plenty of websites out there for you. If you're interested, post another thread otherwise, I'll go directly to your specific question.

I guess your question is pertaining to medical insurance. I agree that you should have medical insurance. Which plan you choose will depend on your place of employment because this is usually where you get the best deals. If you are not able to find such a plan for whatever reason, then you may have to get an individual plan, BCBS and Aetna (I think) offer such plans. I do not know of any plans which will let you in for "free" with a pre-exisiting medical condition. If you are financially limited, medicaid is an option. NJ also has its own charity fund. For example, Paterson, NJ is a poor city and most of the population has no insurance, but they are covered by the NJ plan. Unfortunately, my knowledge is limited but here's what I've found so far:

I'm afraid you'll have to do your own research, but the following is a good place to start:

http://www.state.nj.us/dobi/division_ins…

In the mean time, the good news is that some BP meds and lipid lowering meds are on the cheap list of generic drugs.

Walmart for one has meds for $4/month or $10/3months.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.g…

Target also has something similiar

http://sites.target.com/site/en/health/p…

Ask your doctor to prescribe you a medication which is on this list. If you're curious about the quality of a $4 vs $200 medication there isn't any difference. The goal is to control your BP and cholesterol. That's all that matters.

Hope that helps

Question:

Are they afraid it will flush Jesus out of their hearts along with the fatty materials such as cholesterol, and is just another trick by evil science to make them lose faith?

Answer:

Scientists are evil. There's no doubt about that, what with making up the entire fossil record and all. I don't think we even have skeletons in us. I think that's just a load of bull made up by the evolutionists. But the ones working on the medicines needed for one's own survival, those are the exceptions. And if any church leader desires something that automatically becomes non-evil, too. That's how God works. Everybody knows that.

Question:

I know these statins can cause side effects including joint PAIN. Does that mean they can do actual joint DAMAGE?

Answer:

The big worry is called "rhabdo" Basically some muscle tissue starts breaking down.

Joint replacements are usually done for bone damage, often from osteoarthritis.

So, I wouldn't expect that statins would damage bone.

Question:

OK, I am a 20 yr old female. I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus this past April, but apparently I've had it for 6 years now. For the past year I have been experiencing intermittent pulsations of numbness/tingling throughout my body. It comes on every few weeks and lasts anywhere from 3-5 days, nonstop. It's about an average of 2 pulses a second. It mostly occurs when I move or change direction. I know it is SOMEHOW linked to my antidepressant, Pristiq. Every time I miss a dose, or stop taking it for a medical test, the pulses come back, usually about 12 hours after the missed dose, but this last time it took 3 days to start happening. They start out faintly and get worse and stronger as time passes. When they happen I have trouble walking, talking, anything. I can't feel where my limbs are because I lose feeling during the pulses. I was actually drinking a glass of water once and the pulse came and I couldn't feel the cold water in my mouth anymore. The numbness only lasts when the shocks are occuring, as I stated about 2 a second. You can imagine how difficult this has made my life. I went to work today and ran into customers all day! I try to go through my everyday tasks but they're so much more difficult when the pulses come.

I went to the doctor and they did a VNG on me. I have a vertical nystagmus of the eyes, but I do not have vertigo. I even went to physical therapy because they thought it was vertigo but I never got dizzy with the shocks when I was there, they said I was wasting my time doing physical therapy. I now have an appointment with my cardiologist tomorrow (I also have mitral valve prolapse) to see if maybe my heart is the problem. I am getting an Auditory Brainstem Analysis later this week (MRI of my ear canals and the surrounding brain tissue) and I have been told by my doctor I also need to schedule an appointment with a neurologist.

I just want to get this over with and fix whatever's wrong. I already went through all the doctor stuff THIS YEAR! I had to fly to Pittsburgh to the Lupus Center to find out if I had Lupus. I am open to any thoughts anyone has as to what the heck this could be. They said I had a mild cause of lupus. I am taking 200mg of plaquenil a day, no steriods. I also take Yasmin, and 50 mg of Prisitq. I have stopped taking the Prisitq for the last 4 days to make sure this isn't some weird addiction thing. So far the pulsations are still going strong. I looked up SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome, but that sounds like it's just the effects of depression after you discontinue the SSRI, plus vomiting and chills. I don't have that. Honestly I haven't even felt depressed since I stopped the medication. I haven't felt nauseous, but I always cold (I'm about 115 lbs.)

Here's my medical history:

My aunt has Lupus, and another aunt has Multiple Sclerosis. My cousin has Epstein Barr. I had a hermangioma under my eyes when I was younger which rarely acts up now. I used to have high cholesterol that was induced by acutane (acne medication) but that was about 4 years ago. I had to take Lipitor for about a year. During that time I also had issues with high triglycerides, but that has since been resolved. About a year and a half ago I had issues with low blood sugar and that was fixed by just eating often. I developed a tic in my shoulder around 3 years ago because of Zoloft. I discontinued with medication and still have the tic a few times a week (it was about 60 times a day). When that was an issue I had a EEG done which showed a few abnormal results but nothing to be worried about because abnormal firings of the brain was normal in adolescents. I discovered I had mitral valve prolapse one day when I was about to fall asleep and my heart started racing and my left arms started hurting. I do have regurgitation but it's very little. Along with Lupus I also have Raynaud's Phenomenon which causes my feet to turn purple in normal temperature rooms. I have had an MRI with and without contrast, they said there were no brain lesions because of the lupus. I have been on numerous antidepressants for the past 6 years.

I don't know if the Pristiq is what has been causing these horrible sensations or it has been acting as the TREATMENT for something else I didn't even know was wrong, so when I stopped taking the treatment, the problem came back. I know some of you must be thinking, 'hello, they're gone when you take your meds just keep taking them!' but I can't do that, I don't know if the meds are causing this and hurting me or not. Maybe if I keep taking the Pristiq the symptoms will just keep getting worse when I have to stop taking it and maybe even hurt my body more.

I need help! I was planning to move out of my mother's house to go away to college next semester and I've had to put off my plans for another day because I'm not well enough to live on my own! I'm still stuck at my community college! These health issues are building up and slowly destroying what little life I h

Answer:

Emily,

I honestly can't believe that you've been going through this hell for all this time. I have MS, so some of these things sound familiar to me, but your MRI results came back negative for lesions on the brain which would have been able to confirm MS. However it is common to use a spinal tap to assist the diagnosing of MS when MRIs come back negative. MRIs are not the only way to detect MS. Check this out: http://tr.im/spinaltapms

Unfortunately, since I have MS, that is really the only thing I'm familiar with on this level. Although is has not been proven yet, it hasn't been disproven either, but there are thoughts of the possibility that MS can be genetic, and because Multiple Sclerosis is already in your family, that would expose you to a higher chance of having it yourself. There is also a similar possibility of the Epstein Barr virus that may have a link to MS. http://tr.im/epsteinbarr_ms

Ugh, it hurts me to not have an answer for you. If I come across any information that even remotely has a possibilty of having to do with your situation, I will email it to you.

Prayers go out for your health and sanity as you try to figure this out.

God Bless.

Question:

Statins users: have you done any research on side effects before you agreed to take the drugs?

Answer:

Statins can cause muscle pain and in some cases actually destroy muscle tissue. Also... statins block the body from producing a chemical called coenzyme Q10. coQ10 is needed by the body for cellular energy and to keep the heartbeat strong. If coQ10 is depleted, it could be a factor in weakening the heartbeat. That could cause a heart attack. Take supplemental CoQ10 if on statins.

Question:

What happens when someone stops taking Lipitor?

I really need to know, please and thank you.

Answer:

Liptor is a cholesterol lowering drug. It lowers cholesterol levels in your body. High lipid levels are a risk factor for heart disease. Sometimes medication is necessary to reduce cholesterol levels.

Edit

High cholesterol levels put people at risk from cardiovascular events such as MI and stroke. Keeping cholesterol levels low, reduces this risk. If a stroke patient stops taking statins they are at a greater risk of having a stroke, heart attack etc.

Question:

When I was 17 (about four years ago) I visited an endocrinologist and was told that I had hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, and probably PCOS. They induced a period and put me on Synthroid and Lipitor. Being 17, I quickly grew apathetic about the drugs and after a few weeks refused to continue taking them.

For the next four years my periods occurred so seldom as to be nearly non-existent. Every seven or eight months I would have one or two days of light, brownish bleeding and then it would stop. At one point I did not menstruate for more than a year.

Recently I changed my diet (cut out most refined carbs) and have lost a little weight - about six pounds in three weeks. That's two pounds a week which is an ideal rate of weight loss.

I got my period 11 days ago... it started off the same as before, light and brownish in color, but it lasted longer than the one or two days it was lasting before. As the days wore on it got darker and redder, until (a full eight days into the period) I suddenly began bleeding the way that I used to when I was a teenager - heavy, clotted, bright red blood. I also got the heavy cramps back which I had as a teen.

I'm into my third full day of bleeding this way bringing my period to a total of 11 days. I'm very glad to have a normal period after so long but I'm worried that bleeding for so long (even though it was a light, brownish flow for most of those days) is unhealthy. I'm worried that this heavy bleeding won't stop...

Does anyone know if it is normal to bleed a lot after you have missed many periods? Is it just my body correcting all those missed cycles? Or should I seek medical attention?

Answer:

Your body could be just making an adjustment at this time. If you have it longer than about 10 days I'd watch how the flow is, if it's letting up then or staying strong. It should eventually stop. I had mine once for what seemed like 2 weeks. Seemed to stop and then let up again as if it wasn't done. Odd but true. As long as this doesn't continue for months I'd say it's your body getting back on track. Otherwise if it continues for more than 2 period cycles I'd make an ob/gyn appt. to discuss this. I'd say that very likely your body just is getting back to what is expected of it to be doing now at your age. Just watch and see.

I've had irregular seeming things happen in the time I've had this but my dr. said my paps are normal and she said that a woman's body changes in the hormone levels and such when she gets older. It is just a process the female body sometimes goes through. Stress, illness and heavy athletic training can also be things that affect a period flow.

Question:

now lipitor comes in 20mg and 40mg tablets. me and my my mother both have high cholesterol and both are on the lipitor tablet. i am on the 40mg while mum is on the 20mg i have 2 prescription from the dr for lipitor 40mg (cause each time i go i get one just incase i don't go back for a little while). when i buy it i give one pack of the 40mg and give it to my mum, but because she is on the 20mg she just breaks it in half and takes it. in effectiveness this actually saves money too cause she can go for 2 months rather than only 1 month using this technique.

does anyone know if this tablet can be split and if split does it lose its effectiveness. the tablet doesn't have a break line so normally you can't break them, but according to website http://aids.about.com/od/generalinformat… you can. its not a different generic tablet it is the actual lipitor 40mg.

Answer:

That should be fine. You can always ask your pharmacist these questions as well.

Answer:

If your father was injured from any of those drugs he'd probably be eligible for a new lawsuit regardless of whether or not he's eligible for the Tricor settlement. I've filed a case a past through http://www.badproducts.com because the form was free and they helped find people in a similar situation as me.

Answer:

Well rather than coming off them completely, a dose adjustment may have helped. 10mg of Lipitor is usually more tolerable. What dose were you taking before and more importantly what is your cholesterol level at the moment?

See your GP and discuss the problems you are having with him. Do you have any other health conditions and what other medications do you take? Some drugs can make mucle effects worse.

Question:

my heels hurt so bad that I can hardly walk. Could taking lipitor be causing this?

Answer:

I would say, yes it is possible. But, of course, it does not mean for certain that lipitor is causing the pain in your heels. Check with your physician or clinician because I don't think that is a common side effect of this medication. Also I came across this under "precautions" with this medication:

Check with your doctor immediately if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if it is accompanied by unusual tiredness or fever, because the medicine's adverse effects on muscle can lead to serious kidney problems

less common or rare side effect:

Muscle cramps, pain, stiffness, swelling, or weakness, especially if accompanied by unusual tiredness or fever

Increased sensitivity to touch or pain

not determined side effect of Lipitor

Joint pain

Redness, tenderness, itching, burning, or peeling of skin

Most common side effects:

Headache

Hoarseness

Lower back or side pain

Pain or tenderness around eyes and cheekbones

Painful or difficult urination

Stuffy or runny nose
